About Me

Since 2014, I’ve been providing professional consulting services to clients in Iowa and Minnesota. From discussing grading implementation to speaking about leadership, my focus is always on building capacity with teams to move their work forward. I’ll work with you to create a customized plan of action for yourself or your organization. Get in touch to learn more about my vision and consulting approach.

I currently serve as the Associate Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer of Linn-Mar CSD in Marion, Iowa, a district of nearly 8,000 students.  Prior to that I was the high school principal of Solon High School in Solon, Iowa, where my staff championed grading reform efforts and implemented standards-based grading within a Professional Learning Community.  During my time in Solon, my staff was recognized as a national model for professional learning communities and was named one of America’s best high schools in 2014.

I have been an educator since 2002 with a background in elementary teaching, standards-based grading, assessment, secondary grading reform, and I also serve as an adjunct professor.

My strong belief is that leading with a positive organizational culture through high accountability will result in marked improvement in your organization.

I received my bachelor’s degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa in 2002 and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Texas-State University in San Marcos, Texas in 2005.  I completed my superintendent endorsement from the University of Northern Iowa in 2011 and am currently finishing my doctoral degree in educational leadership at the same institution.

Dr. Lisa Remy, Superintendent West Des Moines CSD, Des Moines, IA

"When West Des Moines Community Schools started to consider moving towards more effective grading practices we asked Nathan Wear to serve as a facilitator of our stakeholder group.  Nathan was known as a leader in the state in this work.  He was knowledgeable, professional, well prepared, and available for questions from the group.  He was a good listener and posed really thoughtful questions for us to consider during our work.  I would highly recommend Nathan to lead this work with staff, parent and community groups."
